Unlike other coastal areas of the Azores, with their dark, volcanic sand, São Lourenço offers scenery rarely seen in the region, placing it in a category of its own within the Azorean property market. This uniqueness limits the scope for direct comparison for foreign buyers, who rarely find a similar offering on other islands in the eastern or western groups.

Concern over preserving the surroundings

Local landscape conservation groups warn that construction interest could upset the balance between the protected old vineyards and new buildings. They are calling on municipal authorities to tighten controls on building permits in the immediate vicinity of the bay. Preserving the dry-stone walls, a traditional feature of the island's agricultural landscape, has become a specific focus of planning efforts.

Families living near São Lourenço acknowledge they can no longer compete with the purchasing power of foreign buyers.
