Tour operators include a visit to the salt pans in many of the organised tours around the island. This steady flow of visitors has turned land once considered marginal into assets with real demand. Local developers admit that barely a decade ago no one would have anticipated this level of interest in the area.

This format requires less initial investment than a conventional hotel, which has attracted small local investors as well as some foreign residents on the island.
